Learn to Live and Live to Learn

By Ramadurai.R

Each and every second, our world is changing. This change impacts every individual. Effects of these changes are our learning and experiences. If we ignore them, we fail to recognize them and adapt to those changes. What is it that we all learnt from this changing world? Answer is infinite. This unlimited learning is true for everyone.

Learn from yourself

Learning is directly proportional to growth in our life. Life is the time duration between birth and death. Success comes as a result of efforts one puts in his life time. Success is different for each individual. It depends on their goals and targets. Sometime you may fail. When I came to Bangalore for job, I struggled to find my first job. Not having fluency in English, I did fail in final round of interviews after my successful clearance of technical round. Success is not success unless success is succeeded by the success. Similarly defeat is not the defeat unless the defeat is defeated by the defeat. Whether it is success or failure, never miss a chance to learn a lesson from it. That leads to substantial growth in life. Five fingers of a hand are not equal, but two hands only can make sound. So it is quite obvious that there will be a difference of opinion, but it is up to us to find the unity in it. I am strongly against the religion that separates humans, but in favor of those that unites with a service, as all the religions fundamentally teach one lesson - to help yourself first and to help others next. When we have grown so much in technology, why did we not grow socially and spiritually? Only when we grow spiritually, we will forget religions. Learn to see the unity in diversity. Whatever we do, we will get tired. To be active during work, sleep normal (7-8 hrs/day). If we are idle, we get tired easily. Best example is, most of the software engineers, spend their weekend time in sleep. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Planning only will not bring the output, but planned action brings the desired output. Learn to plan not only work, but also your free time for self and others.

Learn from others

Time and tide wait for none. Time is the backdrop of success. My CEO called me for an one on one meeting at corporate office which is about10 kilometer away from my office. When we were discussing, he told me that he would have given me an appointment when he visited my office. But we think they are always busy which is not really true. They learnt to manage time. So learn to manage time, not only yours but also other’s time which is as important as yours. I had been to US for business purpose. My colleague and I had lunch together. After the lunch, we cleaned up the table ourselves, so also every body including many Indians. The same people when they come back to India do not do this. They lack even the minimum etiquette of table manners. Why do the same people exhibit different behaviors? During my college days, we had an educational tour to Ooty. While traveling in the train I met a foreigner. He had tea in a paper cup and kept the empty tea cup in his pocket. I asked him to throw it out. He said “No”. I learnt a lesson on that day. We must learn to accept others point of views if it is good.

In the Technologist of Social Action (TSA) service trip, we visited an old age home. The inmates see us as their own grand children. They tell stories of their life and family with such an amount of feeling that I cried many times myself. What I learnt from them is not to ignore our senior family members. This is learning from an unusual source. Recently, I have attended Missionaries of Charity (MoC) orphanage girl’s marriage. The marriage was arranged by sisters of MoC. Normally we expect many things from others, but look at these sisters. What a love they have on their child! They gave so much love without expecting anything in return. Let us learn to become an unconditional lover. Friendship is god’s gift. It is beyond family relations. A Friend is not one, who just takes part in your happy moments, but also in bad times. One of my friends got admitted in the hospital due to depression over some relationship problem with a girl. The girl did not come to see him in the hospital, this bothered him a lot. When I interacted with the girl, she said that we are in society where girl and boy Friendship is not looked like good relation yet. That has led to breaking up of their friendship. Another of my friends’ love marriage proposal ended up in failure, as the mode of marriage proposed is not in line with the girl’s caste procedure. Both of my friends took a longtime to come out of their relationship failures. When you have friend, don’t expect anything in return. Whenever we condition our relation, mostly we break. Learn not to be a selfish friend.

Learn from nature

In the evolution of nature, man is the only creation with sixth sense called mind. Every one in the world has unique feature and talent. Identify your own potential and be a differentiator. Whatever we do, it starts from our mind. Learn to listen to your thinking and believe in self motivating auto-suggestions. Let the defined goals be very positive (benefiting to self and others at present and in future) and inspiring. Learn to define realistic goals. So, whatever we think, it will happen, for sure. Take some time to love nature which is in abundance. Look at the Sun; does it work for any thing in return from you? Look at its enormous power to feed and energize every one and every system in this world. Make your life in the hearts of every individual. Most people, who lived with human touch, live forever in everyone’s mind. Mother Teresa is one of the best examples.

Live to learn

Whenever we adopt new things, we hesitate to accept it easily. It is quite obvious that there will be some teething problems. We must learn to cope up with these problems as the end results will be too good. Learn to cope up with change if that brings good result. No one is perfect. Learn not to find fault in others. We have a meaning in every relationship. We came to this world out of relationship. We are living in this world in search of lasting relationship. Everyone has a meaning in their life. Everyone is changing every second. So learn to live and live to learn with a change every moment.
